Counseling and Social Skills Program

The Counseling and Social Skills Program is designed to provide individual and group social coaching for students.  Students are provided with a safe place to discuss their concerns and problems as they relate to school.  In addition, students are encouraged to gain a better understanding of themselves and the people around them and to establish and maintain relationships.  The goals of the program are to develop good self-advocacy and problem-solving skills.

The counseling and social skills program includes the following components:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling -- a boys' and a girls' group
  • Conflict resolution and crisis management
  • Group dynamics class for 9th grade and a social skills class for grades 10, 11 and 12 which cover the following topics:
    • Self-awareness
    • Self-acceptance and self-esteem
    • Communication skills
    • Interpersonal relationships
    • Social decision making and conflict resolution
