College Library Tour and College Writing/Research Workshop
The CHS Junior class made a trip to the campus of Montclair State University (www.montclair.edu) in Montclair, NJ. The trip was led by CHS Director of College Counseling and Placement, Mrs. Dawn DeSimone and the focus was to provide our 11th graders with a simulated college learning experience. The students began their day at the MSU library where they took an informative tour and learned about the research potentials that exist and that can be translated to any college library. After our library tour, the students participated in a College Freshman Research-Writing Workshop led by a MSU college research librarian. In addition to working in a various databases, students received direct instruction on how to specify their searches, utilize abstracts, select valid literature, and collectively build a starting foundation for a college level research paper.
