Craig High School- January 24th

THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Head Of School
NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

Our 2nd Trimester Progress Reports will be posted to our Veracross Online System by the end of the day on Wednesday (January 29th).  To view them, you will need to log into our Parent Portal which you can find on our school website (www.craigschool.org) under COMMUNITY RESOURCES.  Once you click that tab, slide down and click on PARENT PORTAL at the bottom of the list. Once in Veracross, you will be prompted to enter the email address where you receive all of your CHS updates such as the one you are reading right now!  If you forgot your password, just click “can't access your account” and they will guide you on how to reset your password.

Once you have a chance to review your teen’s progress reports, if you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to email that teacher directly.  After Progress Reports are posted, students’ COACHes will review the progress reports with them during support periods over the next couple of weeks.  This will allow our students to be active participants in understanding their progress in specific classes, gain clarity on areas they need to continue to work on, and be a part of the game planning for the remainder of the trimester.

Stay Warm,

Dr. Cap

COMMUNITY NEWS

CHS Seniors Compete in Nationwide Forecasting Tournament Sponsored by the Alliance for Decision Education: Craig High is proud to share that our 12th graders took part in a “Forecasting Tournament” with other HS students from around the country.   Forecasting is the art of predicting future outcomes using historical information, current data, trend analysis, and credible and focused research to rationalize their predictions.

The 10-week online tournament brought together 384 students from 87 schools in 22 states to compete in a three-round competition with prizes awarded to the top forecasters.  And we are proud to share that our very own CHS 12th grader, Chloe was one of those top forecasters, pulling off a 40th place finish and a $50 Amazon Card Award!

The tournament was sponsored by the Alliance for Decision Education (https://alliancefordecisioneducation.org/).  Decision Education is a nonprofit that believes in teaching students how to think, not what to think, and empowering students with life skills that draw from multiple fields including behavioral sciences, mathematics, research, data analysis, and philosophy to make the best decisions they can.

Josten Ring INFO SESSION THURS Jan 30th-Designing Your Own HS Ring:  Next Thursday during end-of-day support, our Josten ring sales rep, DENNIS, will be paying Craig High a visit.  He will be handing out order booklets and walking students through how to design their very own high school class rings online.  He also might surprise them by letting them try on a Super Bowl ring given to the winning team.  Josten has been the official Super Bowl ring provider of the NFL since 1960!

February-March Badger Bowling Intramural League SIGN UPS:  Our 4-week afterschool intramural bowling league will start on Thursday, February 13th, followed by the next few Thursdays (Feb 20th, 27th, and March 7th).

We will get our bowlers to the lanes from school but parents will need to arrange for pick up at the Boonton Lanes (520 Myrtle Avenue, Boonton, NJ) at 4:30 PM.   We will also cover the cost of bowling and shoes but students will be responsible for any snacks and drinks from the concession stand.  We will host a student info session the week before bowling starts up.  Any questions, email our Bowling Coordinator, Ms. Crum at JCrum@craigschool.org

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

YOUNG WRITERS

Students participated in a writing contest for Young Writers, Fright Club edition.  Chloe (11), Molly (9), and Peyton (9) each submitted a writing piece, and all three were chosen to be published. The editors at Young Writers were “impressed with their writing…having all of the work chosen to be published doesn't happen every day.”  Young Writer's editorial policy looks at perception, imagination and creativity, expression, originality, and use of language when choosing pieces for publication.  We look forward to seeing their final publication in March.

Literary Magazine Submissions

As the weather turns colder many of us naturally spend more time indoors. Why not take this opportunity to encourage your child to show off their literary and artistic talents and growth? We are looking for all types of submissions from poems, short stories, drawings, to pictures of models, and more. Please see the flier for other ideas and details. The deadline for entries is fast approaching; Mrs. Miller needs all submissions by the end of March.
