COMMUNITY NEWS

SAVE THE DATE-The Return of the Craig School Chili Throwdown (Saturday, March 23rd):  We are excited to share the Return of the Craig School Chili Throwdown, Saturday, March 23rd, from 11 AM-1 PM in our Mt. Lakes cafeteria.  This tradition dates back over 20 years when in 2010 we held our first throwdown.  We even have the pictures to prove it (see below)

First Chili Throwdown 2010

We have crowned quite a few Chili Champs since then and are looking to make this year’s the biggest and best Chili Throwdown ever.  In order to make that happen, we need our Craig Community to come out in force!  So let’s start with our SAVE THE DATE-Saturday, March 23rd.  More Chili Throwdown info to come!

Speaker Series

We will be hosting a series of virtual events for our community in the upcoming months.

Details on the speakers, topics, and sign-ups will be sent next week!

PARKING MESSAGE

Mountain Lakes Campus

We are very grateful to have such an involved community! As with any large family, we can overwhelm those around us sometimes. Please help us by doing your best to be considerate of our neighbors whenever you come to campus.

As you come to campus for drop-off, pick-up, and various activities, please continue to be good neighbors to our community. Ideally, when picking up at regular dismissal time, please try to come as close to 3:00 as possible. It is even fine to plan to be here at 3:10. I certainly understand that not all family schedules allow for waiting until 3:00 and just ask that you do what you can. If you must line up before 3:00, please be very mindful of not blocking the road or driveways on either side of Laurel Hill Road and obey idling laws by turning off your car.

When coming onto the Mountain Lakes campus for activities, whether they are during the day or after school, please continue to be considerate of our community. Please only park in lined spots in our lot, in empty spots in the Blue House parking lot, or across the Boulevard at the Masonic Lodge.

We truly appreciate your support of and commitment to your children and The Craig School!

NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

2nd Trimester Progress Reports will be posted to our Veracross Online System sometime later next week.  Like the 1st-trimester report cards, you will be receiving an outreach when they are posted and a reminder on how to log into your Veracross account to view them.  Once you have a chance to review them if you have any questions or need clarification on a progress report, please feel free to email that teacher directly.

After Progress Reports are posted, students’ COACHes will review the progress reports with their COACHees during mid-day support over the next couple of weeks.   This will allow our students to be active participants in understanding their progress in specific classes, gain clarity on areas they need to continue to work on, and be a part of the game planning necessary to set and achieve any decided goals.

Now onto the Super Bowl!  Thank you to all of our Craig High Community who supported the CHS National Honor Society “Souper Bowl” Soup Can drive leading into this year's Super Bowl.  We were able to partner with our Montville neighbors at St. Pius, support our local food pantry, and use our soup can totals to guarantee the Super Bowl winner and the final score.  Here is what the soup has told us:

SAN FRANCISCO 49ers 31

KC CHIEFS 22

TAYLOR SWIFT ` 21 total TV showings and references to her

The cans have spoken!  Have an amazing Super Bowl filled with the big three F’s-family, friends, and food.  And feel free to send in any leftovers on Monday as it has become a tradition at Craig High to follow up Super Bowl Sunday with Leftover Monday! Go Chiefs and Taylor,

Dr. Cap

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

Craig High Senior, Nate accepted to Iona University:  We are thrilled to announce that Nate has been accepted to Iona University in New Rochelle, NY!  Iona is home to approximately 3,000 students and offers a variety of academic majors including sports media, business, criminal justice, dance, entrepreneurship, and nursing just to name a few.   Iona provides student support services through their specialized LD program called CAP (Comprehensive Assistance Program).  Students can attend tutoring sessions with learning specialists on campus who all hold advanced degrees in the field.

Iona students enjoy life in suburban New York while having easy access to New York City.  Gael Nation comes out in full force to cheer on their sports teams which are part of NCAA Division I athletics through the MAAC conference.  Congratulations again to Nate & Go Gaels!
