- Self-Regulation
A Daily Touchpoint at Every Grade Level
A modified Check In Check Out (CICO) intervention is incorporated at all grade levels at The Craig School. CICO is a systematic way to support student needs — providing dedicated daily time before the school day begins and at the end of the school day for students to meet with a teacher, set and review goals, and practice organization, planning, and prioritization skills.
Homeroom
In lower and middle school, the Check In Check Out structure is called Homeroom. It provides a consistent, nurturing daily anchor — a protected time for connection, goal-setting, and preparing to learn with intention and confidence.
C.O.A.C.H.
At the high school level, this daily structure is known as C.O.A.C.H. — a developmentally appropriate format that honors growing student independence while still providing the structured support and teacher relationship that makes the CICO model so effective.
How CICO Works Each Day
Morning Check In — Before the school day begins, students meet with a teacher to connect, set goals, and organize their plan for the day ahead.
Goal Practice — Throughout the day, students apply the prioritization and planning skills reinforced during their check-in meeting.
Positive Feedback — Teachers provide helpful, encouraging feedback that builds students' confidence and reinforces their organizational growth.
End-of-Day Review — Students close the day by reviewing their goals, celebrating successes, and preparing materials and priorities for tomorrow.
